The 5-Minute Evaluator Briefing

Your evaluators need exactly one briefing. It takes five minutes. Do it before the first drill starts. Do not skip it.

What to say.

"You are going to open a link on your phone. It will show you a player identified by their pinnie color and number. Score that player using the decision tree on your screen. When you are done, the next player will appear automatically. Do not call kids out of order. Do not skip ahead. Score whoever appears on your screen."

"Each of you will see different players. The system assigns specific players to each evaluator so we get full coverage. Trust the sequence."

"If you see a player you do not recognize or cannot find on the floor, skip them and move on. The system will note it."

"I will advance you to the next drill from my screen. You do not need to do anything between drills except wait."

"Your phone might lose signal in here. That is fine. Scores are saved on your phone and will sync when the connection comes back."

That is the entire briefing. Five sentences cover 90 percent of what an evaluator needs to know.

What not to do. Do not try to explain the scoring algorithm. Do not walk them through the whole app. Do not give them a 20-minute training session. They will forget everything. Keep it to the five sentences above and let the app guide them through the rest.

Print this and hand it to your evaluators. Seriously. One card with those five sentences. They will glance at it during the first drill and then they will not need it again.
