The Floor Coordinator

Every rink needs one person who runs the floor. This person does not evaluate. They manage the clock, call groups, and keep the eval moving.

What the floor coordinator does.

• Calls players to the starting position for each drill.
• Ensures players line up in pinnie number order.
• Manages the pace of the drill (when to send the next group, when to stop).
• Calls shift changes during scrimmage.
• Communicates with the app coordinator about when to advance to the next drill.

What the floor coordinator does not do. They do not score players. They do not hold a phone with the eval app. They do not leave the floor to handle registration or check-in problems. Their job is the floor and nothing else.

Who should be the floor coordinator. Someone who knows the sport, can project their voice, and is comfortable directing kids and parents. A head coach or experienced assistant coach works well. It should not be the person running the app because that person needs to watch coverage numbers and manage the evaluator flow.

Why this matters. Without a floor coordinator, evaluators start making independent decisions about which kids to call, in what order, at what pace. The structured drill sequence breaks down. Some kids get evaluated three times and some get missed. A floor coordinator is the single cheapest investment in evaluation quality.
